Episode 14: Confidance

Confidance

Who wants to dance

–The Confidance–

to help build

your confidence?

I learned it from

my confidant

who told me

to do this:

Close your eyes

and make a wish.

Whisper it in your hands,

then close your fists.

Hold tightly to that dream

as you do the twist.

Can you try tinikling

without the sticks?

Next, turn that step

into the Running Man

while making a silly face

at your best friend.

Roar, “DREAM BIG!”

as loud as you can.

Then, quietly,

walk like an Egyptian.

Now, take a deep

breath and exhale.

Trust and believe

in yourself.

Because you just did

–The Confidance–

Yes, you are ready

for any task!

Reflection

When I was younger, I wanted to create a children’s poetry book. I never felt my writing was strong enough to be published, especially finalized to the point where it can no longer be altered. Perhaps that’s why I enjoy this medium. This podcast allows me to explain my thought process, revisit ideas, and even interview other people. I love the casual setting and the space to make mistakes.

With that said, this was the first poem that I actually felt others would accept and enjoy. When I was a student-teacher in a first grade classroom, I shared this poem with the students. We talked about what they wanted to be when they grew up, their favorite activities, and something they wanted to learn or try. Then, I incorporated movements and gestures for them to copy while I recited this. They smiled, danced, and laughed.

Prompt

This week’s prompt is about confidence. Too much of it can lead to hubris, ignorance, and pride. Too little can result in low self-esteem, doubt, and even depression. For your writing, pick an extreme. Life is all about balancing the thin lines between two words.
